May 7, 2025 at 5:35 amI bought a fridge from a lady I found on Facebook. In her post, she said it was old but could still get cold. We went to her place, picked it up, and took her word for it.But after 24 hours of plugging it in, the fridge didnβt cool at all. I messaged her the next day asking if she could take it back, but she said she canβt.
Now Iβm stuck with a non-working fridge π π
Itβs not a huge amount, but it still feels unfair. Just wondering β do people report this kind of thing somewhere? Is there any platform or way to prevent this from happening to others? Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Any advice would really help.

May 7, 2025 at 5:48 amAvoid olx, fk marketplace etc. for buying electronic items. Itβs really difficult to assess how good the device is and how long it may sustain. Anyway, these sites might be good for non-electronic stuffs like bed, chair, mattress, etc etc. -

May 7, 2025 at 6:09 amI know, not very smart of me. We live in a small community where scamming each other is not very common. So I thought it’ll be alright. My dumb ass decided to trust this one.

May 7, 2025 at 6:35 amNot a lawyer but I will tell my POV,
It’s actually possible that the fridge was functional at the time of sale, however after transporting it became non-functional.
Old Electronic Appliances are very fragile,
I don’t think there is much u can do but u can request half the payment back returning the product that might be win-win if the lady agrees. -

May 7, 2025 at 8:26 amIf you paid by bank transfer, the best you could hope for here is a chargeback dispute, your evidence would need to be substantial. You have next to no rights as a buyer in private transactions. The item is for all intents and purposes sold as seen.
The idea is you’d have to prove the buyer deliberately misrepresented the item, realistically though your bank will likely side with you if you just show them evidence of the sale, the fault, and the seller’s non-compliance.
Beware though, some banks will charge you a Β£100 excess for claims that turn out to be fraudulent if you didn’t do your due diligence beforehand.
If you paid with cash, legally you can do absolutely nothing. You can try various tactics to get the money back but frankly, it will almost certainly lead to nothing.
