EHey everyone,
I’m a front-end developer with 1 year of experience. Recently, I joined a new company thinking it would help me grow, but now things are going downhill.Before joining, I had an offer to work in a proper MERN stack role, but I let it go because this new company verbally promised that they would shift me to MERN development after 3 months. They seemed like a bigger name, so I trusted them (yeah, I know… big mistake).
But after joining, I realized the work they’re giving me isn’t development at all—it’s basic HTML/CSS, pure web designing stuff. This is a level below what I was doing before. I’ve already worked on real dev projects, and I expected to level up, not downgrade.
When I asked the product manager about this, he told me my “base isn’t clear,” so I need to work on HTML/CSS first before touching actual dev work. That made no sense to me because I already have a year of experience doing proper front-end development.
Still, I thought maybe I’ll wait. But now it’s been a month and I can tell this isn’t going anywhere. I’m on probation and I decided to quit before wasting more time.
Now here’s the issue:
They are threatening legal action and saying I signed an agreement for 1 year. They claim it’s not a “bond” but an “agreement” and still want to proceed legally also i can’t quit on probation they can fire me on probation but i can’t quit. They also have my original 10th and 12th marksheets (yes, I know I shouldn’t have given those, I realize now that was a red flag).On top of that, my last job paid ₹20,000. This one is ₹18,000. I only agreed because I was supposed to get MERN experience and work with a bigger company. I canceled the ₹1 lakh cheque I gave them.
I feel scammed and stuck.
Can they actually take legal action for quitting in probation?
What can I do about my original documents?
