April 16, 2025 at 12:20 pmI’ll give a quick background,I had ordered a Western Digital (WD) My Pasport Hard Drive (HD) from Flipkart. I backed up my data but HD stopped working in less than 2 months.
Now usually I’ll not have issue, as WD will replace the HD and I have all the files stored locally on my PC/Laptop. But in this case I don’t have the original files as they were on my company laptop and I have left the said company. It was personal data and I don’t have second backup of that.
I contacted WD, explained them the issuea and asked them to either recover the data or reimburs me for the recovery cost and refund the product upon return. They simply said it’s not their policy to recover the data or reimburse it and there’s no return policy. However they will give approval for recovery so that warranty will not be void and will replace the HD. Since this is not agreeable to me. I filed the registered a grievance with INGRAM portal of Ministry of Consumer Affairs. WD contacted again and said the same thing. INGRAM has closed the grievance as WD has “responded” to my grievance but asked to file a complaint a e-jagriti.
I am planning to do so but would appreciate if someone can advise me or share their thoughts on this matter.
The thing is, the said policy cited by WD was never shared or informed to me. Even on Flipkart its not mentioned. Moreover HD stopped working in less than 2 months, it’s a brand new hard drive.
I would really appreciate if you guys can share your thoughts on this matter.
Thank you
