April 14, 2025 at 11:27 amFor the past 8 months, I’ve been buying a 20-litre water can from a local shop at ₹120 per bottle (which was recently raised to Rs 130 per bottle) because I don’t like the water provided in my hostel. I never checked the MRP until today, and I found out it’s actually ₹90, printed right on the bottle cap.Realizing this, I recorded a phone call with the seller where he clearly says the water alone costs ₹130 and that there’s no delivery charge — exactly what I needed him to admit. I also have UPI payment records and chat messages as proof.
He’s likely overcharged me by ₹650-700 in total, and I suspect he’s doing the same to many others. What should I do now? Should I confront him directly?

April 14, 2025 at 12:23 pmYou can file a case, but you will be laughed out of the court. MSRP is basically what the water would cost in a standard delivery area. If the store bought it because the owner went 70 kms to get that water, he would have to add gas and his time to the MSRP. So if it’s more, that’s what you’re paying for. Don’t shop at the store if you find a cheaper place.-

OP
April 14, 2025 at 1:55 pmHe gets it from a distributor nearby, and he gets it delivered at his shop. His shop is like 400 meters from my hostel, and the distributor might be like 4 or 5 kms.
My alternate plan is to get it from the distributor directly with the other guys that drink bisleri water.-

April 14, 2025 at 1:57 pmThen why you wasting your time? He did not hold you at all gunpoint. That’s how much he said it will cost. You buy or leave.-

April 14, 2025 at 3:54 pmNAL – look for your state’s department of legal meterology; they will have a way to file a complaint. That said, given that these bottles are refilled, they may have been too lazy to remove the old labels and are not overcharging you.
Only one way to really find out 🙂

April 15, 2025 at 3:29 amIts your fault for not checking MRP. Literally how can you be so fool OP? Well i tell you there is nothing you can do except warning others which in turn had little to no effect. Because he never gave you a bill which acts as a proof of purchase. Without that document good luck fighting in court for years, spending lakhs of money and in the end getting nothing. 😂 Next time use some common sense instead of asking stupid questions on reddit. 😂-
