May 5, 2025 at 5:10 amI’ve been pretty private about posting my poetry online- whether it be posting on platforms like Substack, X, Instagram, Blogspot, etc. I’ve been told I need take it easy and post it online without caring about people stealing my work. Hear me out, I did post on Instagram for a bit, but when my fellow poet started stealing our conversations into his poetry(he had almost 10k following on ig), I found it absolutely absurd on how easy words can be stolen.I plan to publish my poetry in form of books, meanwhile build a community through posting online- in form of my website/newsletter and on social media. I’m aware all literary works are copyrighted under Indian Copyright Act, 1957, but I want to be extra sure if my work is protected out there. (incase someone steals it).
So my questions are:
1. Do I I need to copyright my every single poem before posting online?
2. What are some trustable sources to copyright my work?
3. Is there a fee I should pay to get it copyrighted?
Hope to find answers in this subreddit, I really need some guidance!

May 5, 2025 at 5:56 amYes you have to a guy Ak Ke called himself a rapper , from Nojoto copied my rap song and published it as his own. It was watermarked and all, but couldn’t help it. The TC of app were hopeless. The owner put me on hold indefinitely. Was on a winning streak for 400 plus days on 4 position and suddenly on 5 Sept Teachers day i was kicked out from the list. Saying i broke the streak. Guess can’t fight with them. -

May 5, 2025 at 6:50 amA lawyer here.
1. No need to register a copyright for your work before posting online. If it’s original, you are considered as the rightful owner of the work and copyright automatically vests in the same. Though registration is optional, it is very beneficial to have (it’s a solid proof of ownership). You can always register it after publishing.2. All work must be registered with the Copyright Office, which is a govt. body.
3. The fee for registration of literally work is Rs. 500/- per work.
If anyone steals your work, you can send them a legal notice of infringement through your lawyer and if things don’t improve file for copyright infringement before court.
Hope it helps.
