April 2, 2025 at 5:42 pmHey everyone,On March 22, 2025, around 10:30 PM, at the Honey Singh concert in Bengaluru, my iPhone 16 Pro Max was stolen from my jeans pocket. I noticed it missing within 20-30 seconds, saw my pocket disturbed, and searched for over two hours, but had no luck. Given the crowd, I believe it was a pickpocket.
Fast forward to today, I got a call from someone claiming to be a Head Constable from Mumbai Police. His name matched both Truecaller and a GPay account (account holder name). He asked me to send my FIR report (e-lost report) to proceed with the recovery.
The FIR includes everything such as imei and other contacts information.
I went to my nearest police station, where the Cyber Cell head spoke to this guy and asked for his police station details—which he provided. He also mentioned that they had recovered 33 other stolen phones, including mine.
However, there are some red flags:
When he called, he first asked, “Is your name [my father’s name]?” instead of mine.
He said the recovery process needs to go through court, but my local police mentioned something about an interim bond process, which I don’t fully understand.
I called Mumbai Police directly, but they were rude and hung up on me, so I couldn’t confirm anything.
What should I do?
Is this guy legit, or could this be a scam?
Has anyone been through a similar situation?
How can I verify this without physically going to Mumbai?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
