April 1, 2025 at 7:59 amI unfortunately lost 49k by scammers. They somehow got my debit card details and did transaction of 49k.
They did it from fake merchant name of Amazon Pay India pvt ltd. They did a transaction of 4k few days back. I even investigated it but i thought maybe i did some payment of 4k that I’m not aware of. Even though i was 90% sure this transaction of 4k is not looking legit.
But unfortunately i didn’t do anything. I thought if i block my card i will have to reissue a new card and it’s unnecessary hassle.Right now, I have blocked my card and reported the incident to bank and cyber crime.
What are the chances that i will recover my money?
Yeah I’m dumb. Lesson learned.

April 1, 2025 at 8:06 amChances of dispute turning in your favour, depend on your bank. If it’s one of the major banks like Axis, ICICI, they will revert your funds right away after the dispute.-

April 1, 2025 at 9:09 amAre you sure? I get OTPs even for international transaction on my Visa cards.
Can you reconfirm that your phone hasn’t been spoofed?-

April 1, 2025 at 9:17 amI’m not well versed with all this, so maybe you’re right it depends from card to card or website to website. But if I were you, I’d always keep international transactions off in card controls in my CC / DC bank’s application, and enable only before I was making a valid purchase internationally. (Since you are saying that you don’t get OTPs for such purchases)

April 1, 2025 at 8:41 amYou’ll be surprised. Fraud redressal, in my experience, has been rather smooth. I had a 1.58L series of fraudulent transactions on my CC which was resolved in about 2-3 weeks. Just don’t panic, and explain everything calmly to the bank. They will ask you to raise a complaint with the cyber cell… this is easy and online.-

April 1, 2025 at 8:51 amScammers look for lazy folks such you. You got hit by a 4K fraudulent transaction but didn‘t block the card because it was a “hassle”. Lost another 49K in the process. Chances of getting your money back are very remote (unless the destination account was blocked by cyber crime within hours).-

April 1, 2025 at 8:53 amThere is a high chance police can find out the money trail. But that money will be blocked and you need to go to court and get the money back. -

April 1, 2025 at 8:56 amI lost 60k in a citi bank credit card fraud. The scammers did similar transactions in Walmart in the US while I was in India. They blocked my card and refunded the entire amount in a week.-

April 1, 2025 at 9:02 amI see it’s an international transaction, by default keep international transactions off always for all cards and enable only when you need it. Then again disable it when done. Please do this for all card.-

April 1, 2025 at 9:14 amthese kind of hacks happen when they have access to the cookies in your browser. that is how they avoid otp, this was two years ago, i don’t keep track of these things much, so i might be wrong, and they might have some advanced hacks nowthe bank is supposed to revert the transaction and you need to hard reset your digital devices.
neither cybercrime nor the bank would do anything without a notice from a lawyer, so the only advice i’ll give is get a lawyer who deals in these kinda issues in your city
