Marital Status in Passport

So my marital status in passport is Single. I got married and then divorced in couple of years. Now I want to renew my passport. Should I change the marital status to Divorced or just keep it as Single. I want to keep it Single. The status is generally not displayed on passport. But will this be an issue during police verification?
