We recently had an event at Renaissance Bengaluru Race Course Hotel, and our team was there for the setup. However, we faced an unexpected issue regarding identity verification.

The hotel refused to accept digital Aadhaar (e-Aadhaar) as valid ID, despite it being legally recognized under the Aadhaar Act, 2016. As per UIDAI:

        > “As per the Aadhaar Act, e-Aadhaar is equally valid as the physical copy of Aadhaar for all purposes.”

Instead, they insisted on a physical Aadhaar card and required us to submit it along with a security deposit, which would only be returned when we left.

Legally, only authorized entities with a UIDAI license can collect or verify Aadhaar details. Private businesses like hotels are not allowed to demand or retain Aadhaar copies, making this practice a serious legal and privacy concern.

I’ve raised this issue with the hotel management and hope they address it. Has anyone else faced similar problems at hotels in Bengaluru?

Tell this to the police who’ll insist on the details

Had police been really helpful in any sense to the ordeal of common man, this country would be way different from where it is. if he tells this to police, they are going to have a good laugh and then ask him to show them the aadhaar card.

I’m talking of the police insisting on the aadhar copy of guests from hotels and troubling them otherwise
