March 30, 2025 at 10:05 amI am a student at a government college and had taken admission to the college hostel. However, I rarely stay there because the classes are not useful and the most important, it filled with addicts, Cigerette, liquor, weed and what not. The hostel is unofficially managed by seven 3rd-year students, selected by previous year seniors who maintain the mess food by taking monthly fees from all residents.Previously the senior used to take half fees if someone doesn’t eat more than 15 days a month but now as we’re the final year students, students from our batch manage the mess and they’re taking full fees whether you eat or not.
I refused to pay, as I haven’t stayed there even for a day in the past month. Now, they’re threatening that they won’t give me a hostel clearance certificate, which might be required forgetting my graduation certificate.
Steps I’ve Taken:
I tried speaking to college officials, but they are not helping at all.
There are no clear hostel rules stating that students must pay even if they don’t stay.
I have no formal dues from the hostel administration—just this unofficial demand.
Concerns & Questions:
1. Will not getting a hostel clearance certificate affect anything major?
2. What legal steps can I take to stop this harassment and extortion?
3. Would filing a complaint with the university or the police be effective in such cases?
4. Any alternative suggestions to resolve this without unnecessary trouble?
5. Lastly I may overthinking but can the cancell my certificate or anything like that?
