March 28, 2025 at 2:55 pmHello everyone,I have been married for two years, and over time, my wife has displayed severe suicidal tendencies. She has attempted once (before our first anniversary) after an argument and frequently experiences emotional breakdowns, shivering, and collapsing over smaller issues. She strongly believes she is unloved and misunderstood, which often leads to these extreme reactions.
Recognizing the seriousness of her condition, I have taken her to a **neurologist** for headaches related to stress and overthinking. We also consulted a **therapist**, but she discontinued after a few sessions. Despite these efforts, the situation remains concerning.
**Recent Incident & In-Laws’ Response**
Recently, after an argument, she left home early in the morning. I tried to check on her but stopped when she asked me not to call multiple times. Later that day, she spoke to her parents while crying. Her father then called my parents, threatening to involve the police and “make their life hell,” dismissing our medical consultations as mere formalities.
**Current Dilemma**
I have been considering **divorce**, but there is a possibility that she and her family may want to continue the marriage with some lifestyle changes. However, my main concern is:
➡️ **If she attempts suicide again and does not survive, could I and my family face legal or criminal charges?**
➡️ **What legal steps can I take to protect myself and my family from any false accusations related to abetment of suicide (IPC 306) or domestic harassment (IPC 498A)?**
➡️ **Would maintaining medical records, therapy visits, and documentation of her mental health condition help in such a scenario?**
While I empathize with her struggles, I am also aware that this is a serious and recurring issue. I want to ensure that I take every precautionary legal measure before things escalate beyond control.
I would appreciate any legal guidance on how to navigate this situation. Thank you in advance.
