March 28, 2025 at 2:36 pmHi!I’m writing on behalf of a volunteer-driven initiative to make government websites easier for citizens. We offer practical workarounds for website glitches and other hurdles citizens might face while accessing government services. We hope to reduce citizens’ reliance on middlemen and give them the confidence to question bribes. You can find us zencitizen dot in
Thus far, we’ve provided detailed guides for several services in Karnataka, such as getting an encumbrance certificate, transferring water/electricity connection, getting a marriage registration etc.
We are now considering writing a DIY for ‘Document Registration’, and have a few questions…
* Is document registration something citizens should handle on their own? Even if it’s not for a property purchase, say just a rental agreement, does it still carry too much risk? At the end of the day, you’re exposing yourself to potential litigation, so is it better to avoid doing this yourself?
* Are there certain documents that citizens can confidently register on their own? If so, which ones? Maybe I can focus on creating a guide specifically for those.
