May 4, 2025 at 2:42 pmHi all,In March, my company laid off 50 employees. They called the employees and told them to leave and gave them supposedly 3 months notice period. Most were asked to resign on the spot, those who refused were given their termination letters a week later.
The rest of our employees have NOT been told that we are laid off but we haven’t gone to work since early April. We haven’t been paid for March & April. I have the company’s laptop which we were told to return once we resign (if). No notice period, no communication from HR.
What is the best course of action from here on? Can I keep the laptop and maybe sell it later? We haven’t been given our experience letters either and the Head of HR has resigned.
Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

May 4, 2025 at 4:39 pmAs a Lawyer my advise is as follows:Until youβre officially terminated in writing, or you resign, you are still an employee and the company is liable to:
β’ Pay your pending salaries (March & April)
β’ Pay notice period (or let you serve it)
β’ Provide full & final settlement
β’ Provide experience/relieving lettersIf none of this has been done, theyβre violating labor laws.
Hire a lawyer and send a legal notice.
Do not sell company laptop it may backfire legally in future. Do not resign voluntarily. If there are many employees alike you, consider to threaten legal proceedings by sending a cluster legal notice on behalf of all to the company, its directors/partners.
