March 22, 2025 at 1:12 pmI am a software developer and I am collecting public data from district courts. with this data I want to build some charts to see how the legal trejectory of this county is going.here are the fields/columns I have for the all cases in district courts. here are those
“`
1. Case type: Fsuit, CRA, PSCO…etc
2. date of filing
3. CNR Number
4. Date of listing
5. Date of next Hearing
6. Case Status
7. Court Number
8. Petitioner advocate name
9. Respondent advocate name
10. Act and Section
11. Case History (With date and purpose)
12. Court Number
13. State
14. District
15. Court complex
16. Judge Code
“`
Think of the above as excel columns and this excel is full with data from 2000 to 2024.
What do you think would be interesting to visualize with this data? to answer questions like which way society is leaning? How effective the legal system is? How social norms have changed the legal sector over the period of time?
I have came up with following till now
* Annual load chart: Line chart showing total cases filed for each year
* Area chart showing proportion of each type of cases over time
* Incoming and closing cases by a court by year
* Most Frequent Litigants and their success rates
Any suggestions on which aspects to focus on or chart ideas would be awesome!
