March 21, 2025 at 11:48 pmI had a criminal matter going on for the past few years. While I was pretty confident in contesting it, it was dragging on without any conclusion. I didnโt want it to interfere with my career, so we took legal opinions in order to get it quashed under 482 crpc.
It took around a year but it worked out.
My lawyer had quoted an exorbitant amount of 13-14L for the matter and we somehow agreed to pay that since we just wanted a quick end to this and thatโs exactly what heโd promised (heโd said it will take a couple months).
By that point we had paid him half the fee. After a year, and the matter being over, weโve paid about 16L to the lawyer. Now, heโs sent us an invoice for an additional 17L on top of this amount. The contents of this invoice are completely absurd. How do we tackle this? Is this ethical? What are our options? -

March 22, 2025 at 1:03 amWhat was the rate or the official invoice cost you had aligned? Was there any agreement or is it just randomly shared costs now and then-

March 22, 2025 at 10:48 amNo written agreement. I was given an estimate last year of 13-14L. Itโs been random since then and now this invoice.
