Is there anything I can do?

I’m about to give my CUET exam and planning to choose a college far from home because my home is shit and so are my family members. It may seem like exaggeration from my part but they have been quite dysfunctional from the start and ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to get out. The problem now is, after years of neglect and indifference, my mother has started growing extra clingy of me and expects me to do all the emotional labour and physical chores of the house. My dad still couldn’t care less about me and doesn’t even know what I’m doing right now.
I have a strong feeling that they will try to stop me if I do happen to get into a college in a different state and won’t let me do. There has already been enough screaming matches and arguments just by the discussion of it. Can they legally stop me? I mean sure, they can just not provide for me financially but I doubt they would do that because of the fear of how they’ll be seen. But what can one actually do in a situation like this?
