How can they encroach on land they claim as theirs ?

There must be some restrictions right ? No way, such a powerful body exists in the country.But then again, they are the 3rd largest landowner after the armed forces and railways

Congress passed the bill, gave them unlimited powers.

The reason you don’t want Congress government ever again.
Worst of the BJP government is still better than congress.

And it’s not just Waqf. Land acquisition bill essentially made sure India can never be manufacturing power house. Any smart entrepreneur will open a tech company or build apps because you don’t want the headache of land, labor and sarkari babu on your head. Absolutely horrendous laws.

They have so much land because all the land of mosques comes under their control. Also if some muslim doesn’t have any airs, they decide to donate the land to waqf. The law has many details and its so black and white like media propaganda makes it sound. Obviously some power is required to protect the property of minority community in this majority hindu country, but its not so direct. They cant just take any land.

Please read the Waqf Act and don’t listen to useless propaganda. Waqf is a governmental body under the ministry if minority affairs.

If you check facts, its not 3rd largest owner too. The Catholic Church in India has way more land than Waqf.

But both of them are national level organisations. Other religions have larger unconsolidated trusts.

The Waqf Board definitely has been demonized more than it deserved but it did need changes. A handful muslims families had created oligopoly and were benefitting from it. Despite so much property and assets, state boards were unable to run their own payrolls and asking state governments for money..
