March 19, 2025 at 5:28 amFormer – yes, latter – shouldn’t share unless it is the masked version. But now that you’ve done it, don’t worry and sit back. Hopefully, nothing untoward will happen.
Try being careful the next time?

March 19, 2025 at 5:30 amMasked aadhaar – you mean? It’s available at the website of UIDAI.-

March 19, 2025 at 5:57 amI’m aware of that. I thought there was a masked pan as well.-

March 19, 2025 at 5:58 amI’m afraid not. And masking the PAN would probably defeat the very purpose it is trying to serve.-

March 19, 2025 at 5:59 amExactly! Which means I will have to keep sending the photo of my PAN card where required. Any employee can download it maybe do something nefarious.-

March 19, 2025 at 6:01 amAs far as these organisations are concerned – if you’re uploading the document into the respective standardised channel – then the possibility of misuse is limited. Unless some major breach occurs. But if you send it over WhatsApp or such – then the possibility of misuse exists.

March 19, 2025 at 5:45 amGovernment should set rules regarding this. There should be a common portal where service based companies request for documents from us, and it should be shared only when we give approval. This will keep a record that when and what we shared to whom. It might make those companies bit more responsible in handling our data. Just like how USA treats the SSN data.
Anyways all this I said should have been implemented before 10-15 years, and it might won’t be useful now, as all our data is already out there for sale. It’s too late now… wait for an year or two when advanced AI will be easily available to hackers sitting in that village in Bihar and looting people’s money without any consequences.
