March 16, 2025 at 2:08 pmI (25F) stayed in a rented 1BHK in Bangalore for two years. The owner lived right in front and would constantly peek through windows or stand outside whenever someone visited. My younger sister (12th grade, hostel student) would stay over during holidays, and he had a problem with that, despite no such restrictions being mentioned when I moved in. I always paid rent on time and didn’t party or make noise.There were multiple maintenance issues (water blockage, leakage) that he never fixed. I fixed it on my own. When the leakage started affecting the walls of his building , he asked me to vacate. I informed him I’d leave on the 15th, but he demanded a full month’s rent. When I told him that he was the one who asked me to vacate, he said that I took too many people and asked me how many people I brought last month. My parents were there for two weeks and my sister too. After deducting everything from my deposit, I still had to pay him 5K. I shifted yesterday when he wasn’t there.
Now, he’s calling nonstop and even knows where I shifted because I shifted just 10 buildings away, The rental agreement expired after the first year, and he never renewed it, so I was paying rent without a contract. What should I do? I’m really worried that he’ll harass me but I don’t wanna pay him.

March 16, 2025 at 2:16 pmAll he can do is verbally harass you and shout. He cant do anything legally. Next time he comes just tell him that he has already wrongly deducted the security deposit and you will not pay any further amount, he can do what he wants. He cant do shit legally-

March 16, 2025 at 2:27 pmThats the only thing he can do. You will have to take stand once and tell him that you dont owe him anything and you will call the police or tell elders if he continues to harass.-

March 16, 2025 at 2:29 pmWhat are the things that I can do? He has mentally harassed me enough during my stay there for 2 years by peeking through the windows and his door. I’m not sure if I complain to the authorities, they’ll be on my side-

March 16, 2025 at 2:36 pmIts too late for that. You dont have any written agreement nor any proofs. However, you can file a police complaint for the harassment he is doing right now. In that you can write all your previous complaints against him. Police wont do much but it would create record and deter him from crossing your paths.Here is what i think you should do now:
1. either call him directly or tell someone elder or a strong headed friend to call him, and tell him to stop harassing as he has already done this enough and you will call the police if he ever calls again or comes to your house;
2. If he doesnt stop, then record your calls and screenshot his messages and file a police complaint. You are a woman and you can use harassment laws to stop him. Even if he abuses once and you have it recorded, police will make sure he shuts up.
Bangalore landlords are infamous for exploiting students, you should give it back to them. His one aggressive call and file a police complaint immediately.

March 16, 2025 at 3:09 pmI can understand this apprehension. But trust me, police will help if he is making things worse. Otherwise what option do you have ?? If you can take him head on all alone then go for it.-
