Scam by contractor

We hired a carpentry contractor and he sort of has scammed us
I’m wishing to take legal action against him and would like some legal advice
He quoted 3L for kitchen+ some extra work but he hasn’t even done 10% of the job yet and it’s been 1.5 months.
When we inquired with other carpenter he said the job is of only 5 days
He is basically just dragging by saying he’ll do it in 3 days and then 3 days later repeats the same.
Please advice what action can be taken against him because I want my money back

Hi. I’m a Delhi based lawyer. Give him a final deadline if you want to, post which you can put your foot down and ask him to return your money and leave, else you’ll take legal action. Most likely he won’t return it, so you’ll probably have to serve him with a legal notice to begin with.

No one will register a FIR for this. It’s a civil dispute.
