March 9, 2025 at 6:01 amHi! I want to get married to my boyfriend who has an American citizenship. I stay in West Bengal and wanted to understand if he has to be present here for 2 months before we do the signing? Is it possible for me to submit the NOC on his behalf and have him send the signed documents so he can come directly for the registration marriage?Im also speaking with lawyers but everyone seems to have a different answer – would really appreciate any insights!

March 9, 2025 at 11:27 amHi lawyer from delhi here! No!
He’ll have to be here at the time of filing the application forms and once that is filed, you guys will be given a date for a second appointment. He’ll have to be present on that day and it will be done. If you wish to know the procedure in more detail feel free to reach out. I can also connect you with a local lawyer. Let me know if you need help!-

March 10, 2025 at 8:41 amYes, marriages solemnized outside India can be registered in India under the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969, provided one party is an Indian citizen and the marriage is valid under the laws of the country where it was performed. If you wish to discuss further in detail feel free to reach out.
