UGot into an accident. Need advice on how to handle the situation
Hey guys, I got into an accident today. I need your advice on how to handle the aftermath. My car was parked beside a road and while I was taking it out on first gear, I gave the right-side indicator. I was going very slow because bikes keep coming and going from behind. I checked the orvm and there wasn’t a bike, so I took my car out, but a ev scooter guy came and hit my car. At the moment of accident, my car was already 90% on the road.
Damage: the scooter rider was not injured but his jeans ripped. Since he felt sideways, the right side of his scooter’s front panel got scratched. Probably will have to be changed, not sure. But otherwise no dent on his scooter. My car got a couple of dents and scratches.
We exchanged phone numbers. He said I will have to pay. Am I liable to pay for his damage? There were people nearby but no one witnessed the accident itself. Nearby people told me to relax and to pay for whatever damage his scooter got (they weren’t blaming me but said police usually takes the riders side).
The rider told me I have to claim insurance from my side to pay for his damage, I’m not sure how exactly insurance works and who needs to be the one claiming?
Please give me your advice.

So it will be his insurance company that will claim from you. he will file a claim with his insurance company, they will collect the FIR he filed and then send someone to acess the damage. My advise would be never to give compensation without legal representation because the amount he will ask you might not reflect the damange couase to him and he might not stop asking for more.
