March 6, 2025 at 5:20 amHey guys,I came back from the UK last week to find out the building we used to live has unpaid Property tax since we moved in in 2005.
The principal amount was somewhat 30 lakhs, which has now reached 1.3 Cr penalty charges, interest and everything including.
Now the problem is the building has 30 flats out of which 15 are privately sold and 15 SRA flats, and they don’t have money to pay all this.
Is there a way that we can just pay our share of taxes and be sorted? As yesterday we went for a consultation with property lawyer and he says if anyone pays seperately it will go to the consolidated amount not for seperate flat.
Its in Malad, Mumbai.
What are our options?
Thanks in advance ๐

March 6, 2025 at 6:07 amFor the consequences part, in the end Property Tax can be recovered as arrears of land revenue i.e. they seize and auction the property to recover tax.
But with so many residents involved and the politics that follows, I don’t see anything like that happening.
Stay patient and keep your share ready until a comprehensive solution is worked out.
