March 5, 2025 at 6:22 amSo since March of 2024, my employer started holding salaries of almost every employee because they were going through some “financial crunch”. They had assured us that we all will be getting paid in full gradually and such issues won’t pop up again and everything will be alright by July of that year.Comes July hardly salaries for month of April are received by few employees. When asked again we were given a new month. November is when you will all get paid your salaries and all the issues will be sorted. November passed and things were only getting worse. Then they gave us another month, January 25. A long speech on how we will bounce back in new year. Situation is far from improved however their personal trips and other personal expenses are not at all hampered.
Now you may ask why did you continue to work there? Now my answer will make sense to some while others will go on to state how I shouldn’t have stayed in this job.
I had a few EMI’s and I didn’t wanna bother my parents with those or with my fees for professional career or with any of my expenses. And I had my exams in the month of November and I didn’t wanna screw that up. Also I had completed a year at this place and I was kinda comfortable with my work and the team and the work was almost always challenging so it kept me engaged and distracted enough. So in the month of October (10/10) when I was asking for my July’s salary, they didn’t pay me. They gave me 30% of my salary at the end of October which was too less when I had last got paid in the end of August. In November when my exams had begun, I lost access to my lectures on account of non payment of fees and I mailed the employers regarding my situation and they did nothing. The very next day when I contacted HR, she said that “you’ve mailed. The directors will update you by tomorrow”. The next day arised however I received no communication from them. And by this point I’ve had a panick attack and had screwed up my very important paper for which I had studied night and day for 7 whole months. My parents were devastated watching their daughter go through this ordeal. I didn’t deserve any of this. Especially not when I was over worked and under paid. I had decided by then that I don’t want to work for such self centric people but I also wanted my money so I went back after my exams and I sweet talked and tried to be in their good books to clear a little of my backlog. I had observed a few people doing this, so I gave it a shot. When I felt I had saved enough money to survive 4 to 5 months, I resigned in January 2025. They tried a lot to make me stay but I just said I can’t continue anymore as I want to focus on studying. Then both the directors requested to work till the end of March citing audit reasons (which is genuinely fair because only I in the office used to handle that part) I have my exams in May so we worked out an arrangement where I will work few days a week in March and be paid for the entire month. However I am very lost as to how I get my salary which is in arrears. They are yet to pay me for December 2024 when we are already in March of 2025.
What options do I have?
