I am 24 and had my passport made when I was 2 for a foreign travel, i.e. before my schooling started. We travelled with the passport, but the DoB was incorrect in the passport.

Whenever we applied for a passport renewal – the RPO would inform my parents that once I was 18 and had my 10/12th mark sheet – they would accept that as a final proof of DoB and update my passport accordingly.
However, once I got my 10th/12th marksheets, the RPO denied correcting the DoB in the passport despite all sorts of requests and documents presented.

I have a valid DoB from a birth certificate from the Municipal Corporation, as their online records also mention the DoB I want the passport to be changed to.

All my other documents have a certain DoB, and only my passport has another DoB.

Despite relentlessly begging and requesting the RPO, I had to file a civil petition in the District Court, a case I fought for almost 2 years, after which the judge deemed the monetary evaluation of the case overestimated and dismissed the case. The case was then filed at the High Court.

This was a peak time for my education, where I wanted to pursue my MS in the US, but I did not because of this issue – I was scared of uncertain consequences in a foreign country.

Even now, I want to pursue my education abroad but can’t even travel with this passport until this gets resolved, the visa updation process would become overly complicated (B1/B2 visas valid for 10Y)- as any department rarely DoB changes easily, so the embassies wouldn’t either.

I am done and completely dejected from facing consequences in which I had NO decisive role (I was 2 when my passport was made). I have lost hope in the court system, dates after dates – but rare listings and no hearings.

What can I do in this situation?

What documents matter when studying and working abroad? – should I rather spend energy getting other documents fixed to match the passport?

        Any help is appreciated,

        Thank you.
