March 1, 2025 at 8:32 amI recently sold an assignment to a stranger for ₹1100. Due to some issue, I received the payment **twice**. I didn’t realize it at first, but later, the buyer filed a dispute with **NPCI**, claiming the extra payment was fraud. Now, my bank deducted ₹1100 from my account and made me **sign a letter stating it was fraud money** that I returned. I wasn’t trying to scam anyone—it was just an accidental double payment.
Since the money has been refunded, am I still in trouble? Could this impact my banking record or lead to legal issues? Would love to hear from lawyers or anyone with experience in banking disputes.

March 1, 2025 at 11:12 amu believe everything you are told ?How can it be fraud when you did nothing to get that extra payment. It was either senders problem or the bank’s systems problem.
Search for the CEO’s office on google, there will be a way to write to him. Explain what exactly happened how the money sent twice but since its a small amt you did not notice.
Emphasis on 3 points:
1. Immediately refunded it back when it was brought to your notice.
2. How can it be a fraud when you did nothing to get that extra payment.
3. The bank employee take your signature under false pretense on a document. Say that you retract that document and you are available for a quick discussion regarding the true facts as they happened.
Someone from CEO’s team will surely get back to you.

March 1, 2025 at 3:49 pmfraud is a fraud, does not depend on amt. But you clearly did not do any fraud -

March 2, 2025 at 9:49 amAnd the next time, they show this letter where you have signed stating that you have returned the “fraud document”, as proof of being a repeat offender? It takes nothing for you to create a communication trail protesting your innocence.

March 1, 2025 at 9:23 amYeah. It is very wrong of you to assume the Banks, of all things, is for your favour. -

March 1, 2025 at 8:58 amNothing will happen. Don’t worry. It’s a small amount and the person has already received it. It’s just the terminology the bank uses.

March 2, 2025 at 5:39 amIt’s not his headache…. he should have just simply give his consent to return the money to source account… It’s fraud money or money transferred by mistake is not his concern.-
