        Hey everyone,

I need some legal advice regarding a recent scam I’ve been a victim of. I was defrauded of ₹1,22,000 by a fake job agency posing as recruiters for a Dubai company. They used official-looking documents, spoofed calls, and slowly built up the trust before ghosting me.

A while ago, I was approached by a recruitment agency called Elite Global Careers who claimed they could help me land a job abroad. They seemed very professional at first and followed a very well-planned sequence of events that built my trust over time.

The first step was a telephonic interview with Galadari Motors, a legitimate Dubai-based company. The call actually came from the official phone number listed on the Galadari Group’s website, which I still can’t wrap my head around. That alone made me believe they were legit.

Then they asked for a small amount of ₹28,600 for document verification, after which they sent a “verification report” that looked real. Soon after, they sent an offer letter and even an employment agreement that looked like it was from the UAE government—though now I know it was all forged.

Here’s where it hit hard: They asked for a security deposit of 4000 AED (~94,000 INR) for visa processing. I made the payment, expecting things to move forward. They asked me to wait for a week. But after 10 days with no updates, I tried to contact them and they just disappeared. No replies, numbers unreachable, emails bouncing. That’s when I started digging and realized almost everything was fake. The only thing real was that initial Dubai phone number—which makes me wonder if some kind of spoofing or call forwarding was involved?

I’ve already filed a cyber crime report and shared the details with relevant authorities, but I feel incredibly cheated and helpless. This wasn’t just about money—it was a dream I was working toward.

Please be careful with overseas job offers, even if everything looks legit. These scammers are getting frighteningly sophisticated.

If anyone here has experienced something similar or has any suggestions on what more I can do—like how to escalate the matter effectively or recover the money—I’d really appreciate your guidance.

I’ve filed a complaint with the national cyber crime portal and the local police, but are there any legal actions I can take to trace or recover the funds? Would an FIR help or do I need a lawyer to pursue this?

Thanks for reading, and please help spread the word.

Let’s help each other stay informed and safe.

You have to follow up rigorously with the local police station and escalate to the Commissioners office to ensure an FIR is registered. Alongside, assist them with whatever information you can assist them with including finding others similarly affected. Cybercrime is increasing and we citizens have to hit back.

I was actively looking for a job and my desperation clouded my basic senses to understand what’s actually happening.

Did they find you through a job portal ? If yes, you must take it up with them too. I have heard of similar scams being attempted on foundit.in

They found my details through Naukri Gulf. Have informed them as well

That’s a lead that should be pursued. They would have required a paid client account to get resume database access. Their KYC, payments and login ips could be a starting point for the police. Was the first email through the Naukri automated mailer?

Sorry that this happened to you. As a rule of thumb, just remember that no legit companies will ever ask you to pay anything if they actually want to hire you. And even if they do, stay away from them. I’ve gotten a few of these calls when I was jobless, and the moment I tell them, “Take it out of my first salary”, they either hang up or try to come up with a lame ass excuse.

I was vigilant about all this and there were hundreds of cues to not believe them but all this had happened out of desperation.

Since they have been arrested contact the police to get your money back
