May 8, 2025 at 8:09 amHi everyone,Iโd like your opinion on a situation that feels unfair and possibly illegal.
Recently, I parked my car on a street in Ahmedabad where it was not blocking traffic or causing any obstruction and several other vehicles were already parked, including one that looked like a police or traffic police vehicle. That vehicle arrived just a minute or two before us and parked silently in the same line as civilians, with no warning or signage advising against parking.
My assumption wasโif even a police vehicle is parked here, it must be fine.
We went to a nearby salon, and about 1.5 hours later, I received an SMS stating a challan was issued to my car for wrong parking. When we returned, we saw that the same police vehicle was still parked in the same lineโno sign of any official work or emergency.
This raises a few concerns:
If the location was illegal to park, why was the police vehicle allowed to remain there?
Shouldnโt police lead by example instead of quietly waiting for civilians to park and then issuing challans?
Is this a case of selective enforcement or entrapment?
Iโm considering filing an RTI to ask if that vehicle was officially on duty, and whether it too was challaned.
I would prefer to stay anonymous as I worry about retaliation.
Has anyone else faced something similar or taken legal action in such a case?Appreciate any views or advice.
