Duplicate Share Certificate for Mumbai Flat

Hi. I’m an NRI living in the US. I’m assisting my mother to get a duplicate share certificate for her flat in Mumbai after her original was misplaced. The first step I was told was to get an FIR from the police. Is this something I can do from abroad? Would the FIR need to be filed from her or can I simply do it? She struggles with technology.
