Liable to pay hospital fees?

My friend’s ( old school classmate ) father passed away, unexpectedly due to food poisoning in hospital.
His father wasn’t living with him and was living with a mistress. That woman and my friend’s father weren’t married.

She admitted my friend’s father to hospital and after a week she says that she has no money contact that man’s son. But she admitted my friends father as her husband, but hospital after verification realized that they both aren’t married.

So they called my friend who is unemployed and he straight up said, his father didn’t give him any property money and has told him he is not his son.

So that’s why my friend was living elsewhere with his mom side relatives.

Then when his father passed away, he claimed the body with the help of cops and they didn’t ask him to pay then as cops got involved.

So after 6 months the hospital hasn’t contacted him regarding the bills so is he liable to pay.

NOTE : THEY MADE HIM SIGN IN A RANDOM NOTE THAT HE WILL PAY THE BILL IN INSTALLMENTS ONCE HE LANDS A JOB.

BUT THE COPS OR OTHER PEOPLE DIDN’T SIGN THAT AND SAID IT’S HOSPITAL LOOKOUT.

ANY LAWYER THAT CAN SPEAK UP ON THIS.
