February 13, 2025 at 7:01 pmApologies for this being a huge message
I moved into a house last year which was already inhabited by 2 more people as a replacement for third. Off the start I was told there would be a x amount which I would need to pay as a move in cost which covered all furniture and furnishing in the house. I paid the cost asked of me.
My roommate asked me to come few weeks before the moving to come and sign the lease and I read though the agreement and completed the process. I paid a little more than half the rent as a token for moving in as well.
Before moving in I raised to my roommate that house is not in a good condition and it should probably me repainted and my roommate mentioned that she would connect with the owner for the same
Not on the move in date, I was ready to move in and I pulled up the agreement to show the building for entry. I realise then that my name was removed from licensee and has been added in footnotes that I would also stay there. This lead to lot of disagreements between my roommate and me. On top of this, owner of the house stayed in a different country and only my roommate has her contact details and owner was not willing to share this with others. Given the money already invested in the house, I decided to stay for the time being and move as soon as the contract ends.(did this so my deposit was not impacted)On the move in cost, I had agreed to pay it in 2 month instalment and my roommate had agreed for the same. 2 months later, my roommate mentions that the move in cost was 3k more and when was I planning to pay that. I said no to paying that given that was not the agreement before moving in.
Now to current situation, we have parted ways and all moved out. We discussed on the common electronics and furniture of the house and what was finalised was that it would be split between 3. Given the price for these was not equal, we discussed either to pay others the rest of the cost or sell to third party and split the cost. Furniture for each room was of the resident of the room. I had to move out 1 week early and till then no decision was made. I took 1 utensil from the house from all the stuff for the meantime. I assumed the rest of the stuff would be split once everyone was leaving but other 2 decided amongst each other and split everything and now they are citing that my share was just 1 utensil amongs furniture like sofa and electronics like washing machine and microwave.
To top it all, remember my ask of painting the house before I moved in, that was been added in agreement that we should bare the cost for the same.
So not only I have to pay some amount to repaint the house which was in need of repaint before I moved in, I also donβt get anything from my roommates on the common items. What can I do in this case? I just have WhatsApp chats where move in cost was mentioned but that did not specify what all it covered and I am not a licensee for the agreement so am I liable for the repainting cost? I tried to resolve things amicably but my roommates are not willing to listen.
