February 7, 2025 at 8:48 pmI am a 20 year old student currently pursuing education from a Christian institution and live in their hostel. Recently I posted something very offensive mistakenly WhatsApp status which was only meant for a close group of my acquaintances. It was a screenshot of my chat with another friend completely unrelated to this institution where there was a sticker showing christ in a bad way but forgot about it and only meant for the text which was written below and something we say in exclamation. I didn’t have any negative intention to degrade anyone and only focussed on the joke itself which was my mistake. I’ve duly apologised to anyone who found it offensive and even removed it only after 10 minutes of posting as my roommate got offended by it and told me to remove it immediately. But somehow it managed to make its way to the higher authorities despite only 2 or 3 people seeing it and i was asked to vacate the hostel immediately. They also ordered me to show my phone and someone took a photo with their own phone of what I’ve shared. To escalate matters further i duly obliged. Isn’t this violating my privacy and my freedom as I’ve only meant to show it to a selected group of individuals and nor in any way wanted to promote hate speech?
Also they’ve told me matters will not effect my degree and college if I by myself leave the hostel but still there is another person saying it already has involved the college so what will be my legal remedies in case the matter doesn’t get settled without college intervention?
