April 29, 2025 at 8:32 amHi,
A few days ago, I sent ₹2000 to someone I met on Reddit. They offered to help me get a product that isn’t easily available locally. They claimed they had a trusted contact who could get it. I transferred the money via UPI.They promised it would arrive in a few days, but now it’s almost Tuesday. I’ve been given random excuses (“their dealer’s grandmother passed away”), and now both of them have stopped responding and are ignoring my calls/messages.
I have:
* Their Reddit username
* UPI transaction proof
* Full chat history showing the agreement and them confirming receipt of the moneyWhat options do I have legally? Can I file a cybercrime complaint or FIR under Section 420 IPC (cheating), even though the amount is relatively small? Will police take it seriously? I just want my money back or at least to ensure this person can’t scam others.
Any guidance on how to proceed without putting myself at legal risk would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
