February 1, 2025 at 2:35 am2 cops from a different police station in civil fress saying they are from the crime branch of a police station around 400kms away visited my parents home while I am currently aboard. They threatened and wanted to issue summons but only to me.
They didn’t disclose any detail as to what the case is even about but said this was a long pending case that they need to close after they enquire me. So they asked me to come to their town police station and I could bring a lawyer
Now per hague and Indian law summons has to be issued by proper diplomatic channels by Indian embassy.
Are my parents legally obliged to reveal my country of residence or contact details?
I suspected they may be fake cops but not sure one guy showed a laminated ID but couldn’t make out the details
My parents gave away their aadhar and pan details
I couldn’t verify if they were real cops but do have one guys social media which is private. We are waiting to see what the issue is in the first place .

February 1, 2025 at 3:01 amNAL, but if something is not in written, I do not believe it. Also, cops are not revealing any information. This do not make sense. Just ignore for now and tell your parents to stay calm. -

February 1, 2025 at 6:50 amYour parents are not legally obliged to disclose your country of residence or contact details without a proper court order. Summons must be issued formally, not orally, and typically through proper diplomatic channels if you’re abroad.*To verify if they were real cops, you can:*
1. Contact the police station they claimed to be from and confirm their identity.
2. Check with a lawyer about the validity of the summons and next steps.
