January 24, 2025 at 4:42 pmTL;DR: Contractor took advance payments for a residential project, left half the work incomplete, and is now threatening to abandon the project unless we pay more. We trusted him based on past experience but feel harassed and are considering legal action. Seeking advice on recovering our money and dealing with the situation.Iโve been building my residential property for the past year, and unfortunately, the contractor handling the project has started mentally harassing us. He has already taken payment for work that remains incomplete and is now threatening to leave the project unfinished unless we pay him even more money.
We initially made payments based on measurements, but we ended up trusting him and paid extra since he had worked on our previous home and completed it on time. However, this time, despite receiving a substantial amount (almost covering the completed work), he is now demanding additional money to finish the remaining workโwhich amounts to nearly half of the total project.
We are feeling extremely harassed by this situation and are considering taking legal action against him. However, weโre unsure whether this would help us recover the extra money weโve already paid.
If anyone has faced a similar situation or can offer advice on how to handle this legally or otherwise, we would deeply appreciate your guidance. Thank you in advance!
