home loan, my cheque not returned after account closure

hello friends. i took a home loan few years back. at the time of loan approval the bank took a cheque. they wrote the loan account number on the cheque. i recently closed the account after full payment and got noc. while receiving the original documents they did not return me the cheque. can it be misutilized. should i do something to be safe? please help.
