January 23, 2025 at 7:34 pmThis month, my mom received a call from an unknown number. When she answered, the caller, a lady, immediately started shouting, demanding repayment of a loan. When my mom asked for details about the loan, the caller became abusive, claiming my mom had taken the loan and couldn’t remember. My mom hung up the call, but the scammer started calling from different numbers. Shockingly, she began contacting people whose numbers were saved in my mom’s phone, although we have no idea how she accessed these contacts. The scammer also abused the people she called, telling them to ask my mom to repay the dues. One of these people, whom the scammer contacted, was shocked and asked who had shared his number. The scammer claimed that my mom had given it. When I found out about this, I decided to check my mom’s CIBIL report, as it records all loan details. There were no loans listed, including anything related to what the scammer mentioned.
The scammer claimed the loan was from a company called “Cashbean.” After researching, I discovered that this company had been banned by the RBI, and its application was removed from the Play Store. My mom had never used this app.
Yesterday, the scammer called me. When I answered, she addressed me by my full name and claimed that my mom had provided her with my number. She asked how I was related to my mom, but I refused to disclose this information. She then started abusing me. I asked her if there was a loan, why wasn’t it reflected in the CIBIL report. Surprisingly, she agreed that loans should be in the CIBIL report but said she had no idea why this one wasn’t. She dismissed my question by saying it was “my lookout.”
I asked her for proof, such as a loan statement or loan ID. She claimed she had already sent an email to my mom. When I checked my mom’s email, there was nothing from the scammer. I asked her to send the proof directly to me, but she again asked how I was related to my mom. When I refused to answer, she started abusing me again, so I hung up.
Later, a friend of mine called to ask if I had taken a loan because the scammer had contacted him. The most shocking part is that I had neither saved this friend’s number nor contacted him recently, yet the scammer had reached out to him. She even claimed that my sister had taken the loan.
Please guide me on what to do in this situation.
