1)How do courts distinguish between assault and self defense?
        2) what is considered excessive force.
        3) what if someone hits me and I hit them back but they keep coming back to hit me if I accidentally cause permanent damage is it illegal or self defense?
        4) does self defense have a penalty?
        5)can I request security footage?
6)if security footage is not provided is it illegal?

The easiest answer is, it depends upon the case.

Now read the definitions of harm, force and injury in the ipc

So, to answer your question- it depends upon the evidence presented in the court as to what was assault and what was self defense.
You must have read that there are seven offences wherein you can cause death jn self defense

Ok I have one last question somewhere in there I read that if I have enough time to inform the authorities then I would be held liable for the damages does that extend to a gut feeling/threat given by the other person but no action has been taking to harm or injure me so is it absolutely necessary to inform the authorities now or can a loophole be exploited, and by tht I mean could it be argued that it is infact not my fault(I’m sorry if that’s hard to read)

Anyway, yes you do have to inform the authorities if no harm has been caused and you have time for legal recourse
