UHello everyone,
I need advice regarding a complicated legal and personal issue that my friend’s sister is currently facing.She is pregnant with her present boyfriend’s child, but due to legal complications, she cannot marry him. Here’s the situation:
The boyfriend is already married. His marriage took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it has been 2–3 years since.
He has an ongoing case against his wife, claiming, “I didn’t do anything wrong, and I want her back.” According to him, he filed this case on the advice of his lawyer. He says this is because if he initiates a divorce, he will have to pay a substantial settlement amount.
Instead, he is waiting for his wife to file for divorce, which, according to him, will give him an advantage in terms of negotiating the settlement amount.
Due to this pending case, he claims he cannot marry my friend’s sister right now.
My questions are:
1. Is there any legal way for the boyfriend to expedite the divorce or resolve the case so he can marry?
2. Since it has been 1.5 years since the case started, can any action be taken to speed up the proceedings?
3. Are there any legal options available for my friend’s sister to secure her future and the future of her unborn child in this situation?
This is a tough situation, and any legal advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

UThe boyfriend must have filed a petition for restitution of conjugal rights. That’ll end up going nowhere and in all likelihood he’s just feeding you bullshit. If he were really interested in divorce, he’d file for mutual divorce or otherwise.
Legally your sister’s situation is quite terrible. Perhaps she can file for maintenance on behalf of her child later.
