January 19, 2025 at 3:00 pmHey guys,I’m planning to register a small business as an individual proprietor in India, but I’m a bit confused about the requirements for a PAN (Permanent Account Number). I already have a personal PAN in my name, and I came across information on the official e-filing website stating that it’s illegal to hold two PANs at the same time.
Here are my questions:
1. Do I need a separate business PAN with my company’s name on it, or can I continue using my personal PAN for business transactions since I’ll be registering as a sole proprietor?
2. What is the process for registering as an individual small business owner in India?
3. Apart from Aadhaar and my personal PAN, what other documents are typically required?Any guidance, tips, or insights from those who’ve gone through this process would be super helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

January 19, 2025 at 3:08 pm1. If its sole proprietor you dont need another PAN
2. No registration needed unless GST limit turnover of 20L for services or 40L for goods is reached
3. Nothing else, except for GST registration which can be done online. Registration mandatory if limit is crossed, else you can continue as it is. -

January 19, 2025 at 4:56 pmAllow me to provide you with your answers one by one:1. For sole proprietors, the answer is βno.β However, for companies such as private, public, or listed entities, the answer is βyes.β
2. The fees associated with GSTIN registration can be substantial. If you lack the necessary knowledge, it is advisable to seek assistance from a Chartered Accountant (CA). The fees typically range from βΉ1000 to βΉ5000. Although I personally registered for GSTIN without professional guidance, I was able to do so successfully after gaining proper knowledge.
3. The process of obtaining GSTIN requires the submission of several documents. It is strongly recommended to seek assistance from a CA in creating GSTIN. If you are confident in your abilities, it is crucial to possess a comprehensive understanding of the process, as non-compliance can lead to significant consequences.
