Crossed a Yellow Light, Hit a Scooter. Please help

I recently crossed a yellow light and ended up hitting a scooter. Initially, I was willing to pay for the damages since I thought it would be somewhere around 2K. But now they are asking for 7K in damages.

The person does have third party insurance. I don’t want to escalate things unnecessarily, but I’m feeling a bit stuck here.

Does anyone have advice on how to handle this situation?
