January 19, 2025 at 6:44 amMy younger brother made a big mistake recently. He sent ₹1500 via UPI on Telegram to a scammer who promised to get on a nude video call with him. However, as expected, the scammer blocked him immediately after receiving the money. I’m not sure how he fell for it, but unfortunately, the damage has been done. He only told me about it after three days.Is there any way to recover the amount? It’s already been three days, and I’m unsure if that’s even possible. I’m hesitant to report it to the bank because our father works there, and he would be furious if he found out. Would filing a cybercrime complaint be enough to resolve this without involving my father?
I understand the amount isn’t huge, but my brother earned it by working hard on a painting job for our neighbor’s house. Any suggestions on what I can do to help him recover the money?
Can I report the UPI ID as well?

January 19, 2025 at 6:48 amNope. You can’t recover. Forget about money. Tell your brother to beware next time. But it’s laughable that he lost money for a nude video call on telegram. Really!!-

January 19, 2025 at 6:54 amWill this complain be in between me and the bank. I don’t want my dad getting into this. He already has too much work and also if I tell him not to interfere, he will surely do that. Also I don’t want to get my brother the extra stress. -

January 19, 2025 at 7:26 amIt’s just 1500 rs take the L and move on this wasn’t a scam/fraud your brother blinded by his horniness willingly gave away money to a random person on the internet in the hopes of a nude video call, when there are literally millions of porn sites on the internet for free. It’s on him take this as a lesson and please don’t tell anyone you know about this. They’ll never let him live this down-

January 19, 2025 at 7:33 amAre you the brother in this scenario? Even my “friend” lost 3k trying to hire a hooker. Got blocked when they asked for 5k and he refused to pay-
UUser_2ac4b250
OP
January 19, 2025 at 8:22 amBro, let me tell you what happened. I read his chat, and it started with a demo video call for ₹50. When he paid ₹50, the scammer then talked about an offer – 30 minutes of a call for ₹700. My brother initially refused, but the scammer was so persuasive that he eventually gave in and paid ₹700.After that, the scammer claimed an additional ₹700 was needed as a refundable “security fee.” At this point, my brother was ready to lose the ₹700 he had already paid. But after chatting for almost 45 minutes, the scammer showed him multiple screenshots of people supposedly paying ₹700 and getting their money refunded.
He must have thought, since he had already paid ₹700, why not pay another ₹700 and finally get the video call? The scammer even showed more fake screenshots to convince him. So, in the end, he paid another ₹700.

January 19, 2025 at 7:53 amCyber crime in India is a joke. Even if you give them the phone number and address of the scammer, they won’t do anything. If you go there, you’ll get a lecture on how your brother is a sex maniac and how Your parents have failed him.One year ago, i lost like 7k via paytm. I received a call stating that a transaction of 1L has been made from my among and I’ll have to press 1 to allow and 2 to deny. I pressed 2 and then it asked for otp. My mistake was entering that otp. My reasons for doing it, it’s common for banks to have automated calls that call and confirm the transaction. Paytm uses the otp verification system when you want to talk to a customer care executive. They cloned my Paytm account, linked it to their Airtel phone number and stole money using Paytm postpaid.
Paytm interface is so bad that it took me 6 hours to block my account and was not able to connect to any customer care executive at all for more than 2 days. I sent them an email and they replied “you entered the otp, your fault”. I went to cybercrime and they looked at my entire phone and gave me an entire lecture about how chinese apps are stealing data and using it to run scams. I told him in paytm logs, the last usage data of the other person is UP. He continued to reaffirm that they use gps cloners, ai generated voices etc. Then he just told me i lost my money because i had clash of clans in my phone and if i had PUBG, he would have arrested me instead. His final advice is “it’s just 7k, there are people who lose 7L in a day. Consider yourself lucky and move on”.

January 19, 2025 at 1:19 pmThe procedure works by blocking the specified amount on the receiver end. They will block the amount and force the owner to reason with bank about the money or else the account will remain frozen…if the receiver leaves the account and doesn’t contact bank then bank will deduct the amount from that bank and refund it back to you…this will take atleast 3 month …-
