January 16, 2025 at 12:51 pmHi!I got a new number from Jio, and it was previously registered to someone else, who scammed someone previously. I opened a whatsapp in this number and suddenly a guy started asking for money and said that if I don’t pay up, he’ll inform his sister who’ll use CMS (she’s in telecom) and track my location and police complaint against me and ask for compensation as well. Now I’m shit scared. Please help me. I blocked my number from the online portal and called customer support, they are saying it’ll take 90 days to delink my number! What do I do guys?

January 16, 2025 at 1:12 pmTechnically they cannot do much against you. If the number successfully moved from one user to another then the ownership changes. The new application along with the date is enough to prove you are not the same person. However, anyone who has been impacted can still harass you. Best you can do is block them.-

January 16, 2025 at 1:39 pmDepends on how many connections they have and which legal way they are going.Just to give an idea, i used to get a prank call long back. I knew folks who indirectly knew worked in the telecom sector. They could give me the application details of the sim. But this all 10yrs ago. If compliance and access is better then it should not be possible that easily.

January 16, 2025 at 1:48 pmIf you cancel it it will eventually go back into the pool and to the next person. If you are getting annoyed by multiple people then probably as for a number change and state you are getting harassed. Either way they cannot legally take action on you.

January 16, 2025 at 1:13 pmYou don’t need to worry about anything and that guy who informed you about the previous scammer seems like a scammer himself-

January 16, 2025 at 7:53 pmSeems like a scam, if his sister can really pull that kind of data, they will see that the ownership has changed and there is no point in calling you and second if she gets your data that means your privacy has been violated and she will probably lose her job and you can also file a complaint for same.-
