May 6, 2026 at 12:41 pmIโm trying to understand the best way to obtain a concise legal opinion letter from an Indian advocate regarding MEA / Passport Seva guidelines for correction of date of birth in passports after a long duration from initial issuance. This is not for litigation or to actively pursue passport correction right now. The purpose is mainly documentation for an overseas immigration matter where I need a lawyer to confirm:
the applicable MEA framework/guidelines
that DOB corrections after many years are subject to strict scrutiny/restrictions
and that aligning long-standing identity records can become a lengthy and non-routine process
I already have the relevant MEA circulars and supporting documentation. Iโm mainly looking for guidance on:
what kind of lawyer usually handles such limited-scope opinion letters
whether this is something passport/documentation lawyers commonly do
and what a reasonable process/fee usually looks like
If anyone has experience with something similar, feel free to comment or DM me.
Thanks.
