We are constantly told that if the local police fail us, especially in cases of crime against women, we should approach commissions made for women. But what happens when the police decide to just… ignore the commission?

Recently, my family faced a terrifying ordeal. A group of individuals forcibly trespassed into our private home, criminally intimidated, and verbally harassed my wife and parents, a newlywed woman who had absolutely nothing to do with their disputes with my younger brother, who does not live with us.

        We took the appropriate steps:

We went to the **Sangaria Police Station (Hanumangarh, Rajasthan)**. They refused to register an FIR.

We filed an online complaint on the CCTNS portal. No action.

Reported this to **SP Hanumangarh,** but as expected no reply.

Left with no local remedy except filing an istgasa with the court, we thought to approach the **National Commission for Women (NCW)** too. The Commission registered the complaint and on 24/02/2026 11:38:32, officially sent a notice to the **Superintendent of Police (SP), Hanumangarh**, demanding an Action Taken Report (ATR).

        **The result? Absolute silence.**

The response deadline has passed. The SP’s office hasn’t even bothered to reply to the NCW.

This isn’t just about our pending case; it exposes a terrifying systemic failure. If a district SP can casually ghost a central statutory body like the National Commission for Women with zero consequences, what hope does an ordinary, vulnerable citizen have?

Why do we spend taxpayer money running these massive institutional bodies if they do not have the punitive power to compel a local police station to simply register an FIR for trespassing and harassment against a woman?

Are these commissions just glorified post offices forwarding letters that nobody reads? Are they just PR exercises designed to give women a false sense of security?

It is a sad reality of our country today: It’s not just that citizens aren’t heard, it’s that our institutions don’t even respect each other.

Have you ever approached a National or State Commission? Did they actually help, or did your file just gather dust?

PS: An FIR was later registered when I filed a complaint on the Rajasthan Sampark portal (State grievance portal for Rajasthan) against the very official who refused to register our FIR. I filed the complaint citing the Lalita Kumari Judgement, but till this date, SP Hanumangarh has not replied to the notice sent by NCW to them.
