Current Status (6, May 2026)
The FIR has now officially been registered, and police have informed us that investigation and chargesheet preparation under IPC 420 has started.
The FIR records our payment breakdown as:
– Rs. 21,000 via GPay
– Rs. 35,000 cash on wedding day
– Rs. 25,000 cash paid to a person sent by the photographer
Our concern is that over several police visits, the photographer repeatedly gave contradictory versions regarding payment received. At different times in police station visit, he claimed:
– Only Rs. 40,000 was received online
– Rs. 20,000 was paid to my father-in-law
– Rs. 20k–25k was paid to another person he sent
– Only Rs. 35,000 was paid on the wedding day
– Earlier, he had also stated around Rs. 70–75k total payment was received
These versions directly contradict each other.
Now that the FIR and local newspaper reports clearly mention our payment breakdown, we feel he may try aligning future statements accordingly — especially regarding cash payments.
The new PI may be willing to support. However, we are unsure whether these contradictory statements or observations will formally appear in investigation records or the chargesheet.

Missing Data & Device Seizure Concern
The missing wedding data remains the biggest issue.
Apart from the Mumbai videographer, the photographer had engaged additional local people for coverage. At least one has separately confirmed to us that footage/data was already transferred to the photographer long ago.
The contractor also earlier mentioned a storage card containing remaining data which was allegedly returned to the photographer, but this has never been disclosed during police discussions.
Because of this, we suspect at least some missing data may still exist with him on:
– Hard drives
– Storage cards
– Laptops/computers
– Backup or cloud storage
We are now wondering whether police can formally seize/examine devices before any possible deletion or formatting happens.

Main Concern
We are worried the matter may slowly get reduced to only a “payment dispute,” despite:
– 4 years of incomplete delivery
– Repeated false promises and missed deadlines
– No demand for remaining payment during those 4 years
– Contradictory payment statements
– Possible suppression of wedding footage/data
– Failure to appear after police-witnessed commitments
For us, this has never been just about payment. It is about repeated deception, non-delivery, and possible withholding/loss of irreplaceable wedding memories.

Additional Information
We have also informally learned that 2–3 other families may have faced similar issues with the same person, though they currently do not wish to formally come forward due to court/police hassle.
We are intentionally limiting ourselves only to facts and evidence directly connected to our own case.

Questions / Guidance Needed
1. Can contradictory statements made during police meetings be formally reflected somewhere in investigation records or the chargesheet?
2. Can we request seizure/examination of devices considering multiple people confirmed data was already transferred to him?
3. How involved should complainants remain once FIR investigation and government prosecution begin?
4. How do we ensure the matter is not treated only as a simple payment dispute while the broader conduct is ignored?
5. Can unofficial information from other victims still help establish a pattern during investigation?
Again, sincerely thankful to everyone who helped guide us so far. Any further legal insight or practical advice is appreciated.
