May 5, 2026 at 4:16 pmHi all, we were recently getting paint work done in to outside our house after 15 years. There is a middle man here and the contractor who have taken up this job. No paper work and all with word of mouth. We had informed that safety precautions be taken for the job, the contractor informed that we will take the risk and complete the work soon with jula. We have this recording with us where he agreed for this risk with same payment with safety. The middle man brought safety belt and was daily informing the contractor to be safe.
Unfortunately the unexpected happend and one person fell from 2nd floor and broke bones in two places. He was told to wear the safty belt but refused and fell.
Knowing all this info, the labour union members are pressuring us(owners) to pay the victim. Initially they asked on humanitarian grounds but were expecting lacs.
On humanitarian grounds even if we want to pay, they are expecting huge amount, which we do not have.
They have logged an FIR on us and we are expected to go to court.
Can anyone kindly inform what the law says in cases like this? Are we obligated to pay and take care of the victim till they recover in this case.
