May 5, 2026 at 10:31 amMy Instagram account (around 6 years old, ~16k followers) was permanently disabled by Meta Platforms with the stated reason: *“we don’t allow fake accounts.”*However, this was my genuine personal account where I regularly posted original content.
I attempted to appeal through the platform, but I was informed that:
* The decision is final due to “severity”
* No further review is available
* No detailed reason can be disclosed due to “privacy reasons”Additional context:
* Prior to this, there were multiple impersonation/fake accounts of me (including edited/deepfake content)
* I had reported those accounts earlier, but no action was taken
* After my main account was disabled, I created a new account, which was also suspended within 2 days for the same reason# My questions:-
1. Under Indian law (e.g., IT Act, intermediary rules), are there any legal remedies for wrongful suspension of a social media account?
2. Can I file a complaint with Meta’s grievance officer in India, and does it have any enforceability?
3. Would this situation fall under deficiency of service or unfair treatment (consumer law)?
4. Is it practical to pursue this legally (cost vs outcome)?I am mainly trying to understand whether there is any structured/legal way to escalate this beyond platform support.
