May 4, 2026 at 8:20 amSo here to vent out, please bear with me and share your thoughts on how can win over this on RBI Ombudsman Level. So, I chose HSBC Premier for better security, but I was completely wrong.
I don’t check my app daily. On April 12, I logged in for an emergency transfer and found my mobile number, email, and KYC details had been completely replaced with a stranger’s details.
Then I tried checking the statement, and found that The last email statement I actually received was in December. This means for 4 months, my account was completely compromised, and my Jan, Feb, and March bank statements were automatically emailed to this stranger.
The very next day I rushed to the branch. They only locked my net banking after my physical complaint. I spent 4 days on high BP meds, terrified my life savings were gone, before they finally fixed the technical issue on April 17
The Bank’s Joke of a Response:
I escalated this to the Nodal Officer, demanding compensation for the severe Account Takeover (ATO) vulnerability and mental agony. Their response:
Blamed it on an “updated during system maintenance.”
Claimed “no personal info was disclosed” (a blatant lie, since the stranger got my statements).
Offered me a token โน5,000 for the “operational error” and pushed my case to the Internal Ombudsman after I demanded higher compensation.
Please help!!!
