May 3, 2026 at 4:48 pmAhmedabad tenant – landlord deducting deposit for ‘damage’ after I gave 30 days notice. She wants me to keep her cupboard”*> *Background:*
> – I gave 30 days written notice before vacating.
> – Paid rent on time every month.
> – Gave my word to leave the room clean – same condition as when I moved in.
> – Little damage done as the cupboard roof bend due to bags weight (her stuff was inside the bed storage so no option to put the bags other than above the cupboards)
> – Landlord agreed to return full ₹21,000 deposit on June 1st initially
> *What happened now:*
> – She’s now deducting ₹6,000 from the deposit.
> – She’s telling me to keep her old 2-door laminate cupboard instead.
> – The cupboard looks 3-5 years old, engineered wood, not solid wood.
> – Market value for a used one like this is ₹2,000-₹4,000 max. She’s valuing it at ₹6k.

> *TL;DR*: Landlord wants to deduct ₹6k from my ₹21k deposit and give me her old cupboard instead. I don’t want the cupboard and I don’t think the deduction is legal. How do I get my full deposit back?
PS – I don’t have a rental agreement.
Earlier I requested to inform me when she enters the room. She got defensive, told me I’m accusing her, then said she has every right to enter the room.
